- Item is a photograph of a group of young children in costume sitting on the grass in the grounds of Pauline Johnson Elementary School. The group includes children dressed as the King and Queen and their clerics. They are taking part in the Coronation Pageant, to mark the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The West Van News for June 17, 1937 includes an article regarding this pageant, which it refers to as the Pauline Johnson School Children’s Coronation. The students participating were from grades 1, 2 and 3B and their roles (as elected by the pupils) were as follows: King George VI - Harold Kirchner Queen Elizabeth - Marion Woods Princess Elizabeth - Virginia Ward Princess Margaret Rose - Mary Condon Queen Mother - Virginia Eriksen Princess Royal - June Garland Archbishop of Canterbury - Colin Bisset Archbishop of York - Herbert Johnstone Dean of Westminster - Keith MacBeth Lord Great Chamberlain - David Smith Duke of Norfolk - Joey Lidster Duke of Gloucester - Denis Clement Duke of Kent - Billy Howells Earl of Harewood - Buddy Garland Duchess of Gloucester - Louise Boldrick Duchess of Kent - Betty-Jane Cole Canopy Duchesses - Margaret Thompson, Marilyn Murphy, Mary Addison, Norma Whitesides Trumpeters - Kevin Shannon, Robert Sissons, Jack McNeil Other children filled the roles of soldiers, sailors, train-bearers, pages, and peers, but these are not individually named in the article.
