- Artist Biography
- Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Attila Richard Lukacs moved to Vancouver to attend the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in 1983. After his studies, Lukas moved to West Berlin, where he became known for his large canvases. These canvases referenced the history of painting, from the dramatic lighting of Italian Baroque painting to heroic positioning of figures, recalling neo-classical Renaissance painting. These monumental paintings depicted contemporary male figures, including skinheads, which created a dissonance between the style and the content in his work. After living for a while in New York, Attila Richard Lukacs returned to Vancouver, where he currently lives and works.
