- Artist Biography
- Born and raised in Vancouver, Irene Whittome studied under Jack Shadbolt at the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University). After completing her studies, Whittome lived in France from 1963 to 1968, where she practiced drawing and printmaking with the British artist Stanley Hayter at his studio, Atelier 17. She returned to Canada and settled in Montreal, accepting a teaching position at Concordia University. She is a multi-disciplinary artist, working with a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and installation.
