- Artist Biography
- Long-time residence Sylvia Tait studied at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts under Arthur Lismer, Marion Scott, and Jacques de Tonnancour in the 1950s. After graduating, she travelled to Spain and lived in San Miguel de Allende, Mexica before settling in West Vancouver with her husband, artist/poet Eldon Grier. Tait dedicated her practice to abstraction, and over six decades has consistently produced colour-infused and vibrant canvases, many of which reference music. In Tait's words: "Music and its time-notations present a language that is unversal, and my work is conceived from this ultimate abstract art form using colour and melody and sensuality."
