- Scope and Content
- A beach on Burrard Inlet extending from north of the mouth of the Capilano River to 14th Street.
- Origin Note
- Formerly referred to as East Beach, a contest was advertised in the West Van. News in the summer of 1932 to solicit suggestions for a new name, at the request of Reeve Leyland. The winning name was adopted by Council and announced in the August 11, 1932 issue of the West Van. News. Several entrants to the competition suggested 'Ambleside Beach', so the best essay was selected and the $5 prize for naming the beach was awarded to Mrs. E.L. Roberts.
- Name derived from the Ambleside neighbourhood in which the beach is located.
